Large Vintage French Cotton Reel Bookcase / Shelves
A rather lovely vintage French cotton reel set of shelves perfect for a bookcase or maybe fixed to a wall. It’s a good solid piece with oak shelves and individual cotton reels. During wartime, when resources were limited, people were encouraged to "make-do and mend". Children and adults alike utilised available materials to create furniture & toys along with other necessary items. Wooden cotton reels were a common household item, especially as families did more sewing at home. This fabulous set of shelves is a great example of scratch built furniture common place across the continent. Like most acquisitions from France there are historic woodworm holes we have treat for peace of mind and nibbles to the cotton reeks as expected. There are furniture pads on the feet to level out each leg.
